Hyoseon Sophia Lee

LECTURER IN THE DISCIPLINE OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP IN THE DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING AND OPERATIONS RESEARCH

Hyoseon Sophia Lee is the lecturer in the discipline of teaching English Proficiency courses at Columbia Engineering. She holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Chinese and English linguistics. She holds a Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and is a PhD candidate focused on Foreign, Second, and Multilingual Language Education. Her research interests include second language writing anxiety, affective domains in second language learning, language learning in higher education, and English for specific purposes. She has an extensive teaching experience with both K-12 students and adults.

Prior to joining Columbia, she taught academic composition courses in the ESL program at the Ohio State University. She has lived in KY, OH, AL, NJ, NY and South Korea and traveled to China, Japan, and Canada. She is interested in learning other cultures and languages and has a passion for helping students show their abilities fully and maximize their potentials.
